All the President’s Men

This one won’t make you feel too great about what goes on behind those White House doors. That said, it should keep you glued for the film’s entire 138-minute runtime. Based on true events, Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman star as Woodward and Bernstein, two journalists who “accidentally” uncover the Watergate scandal. Frost/Nixon

While we’re on a Nixon kick, check out Ron Howard’s completely underrated 2008 drama. This takes a slightly different approach than anything else on the list, since it’s based on a series of conversations between Richard Nixon and journalist David Frost. Air Force One

Need a president that’s going to kick a little butt now and then? Consider one that’s a little more like Harrison Ford’s James Marshall. The American President

There’s nothing wrong with mixing political business with a romantic comedy — especially when the two leads are Michael Douglas and Annette Bening. Douglas plays the president and a widower who falls for an environmental lobbyist (Bening) in this sweet comedy from director Rob Reiner (When Harry Met Sally) and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network). In the Line of Fire

Clint Eastwood stars as Agent Frank Horrigan, a Secret Service agent haunted by President Kennedy’s assassination on his watch. So when an evil John Malkovich begins taunting Horrigan, he dips into his Dirty Harry persona and is hell-belt on saving the president — as well as his own sanity. Bob Roberts

This classic “mockumentary” has Tim Robbins as the title character, a conservative folk singer that wants to bring values back to Pennsylvania — at least while the cameras are running. [Buy Bob Roberts on DVD]

Dave

This lighter look at the Oval Office probably doesn’t sound so light. Kevin Kline plays Dave, the presidential lookalike asked to stand in when the Chief plays hooky and ends up having a stroke. Believe it or not, it’s very sweet and funny! [Buy Dave on DVD]

Sometimes you don’t want to run out to Redbox. For those lazy days, VUDU is an excellent alternative. VUDU is a streaming on-demand movie service that can deliver thousands of movie and TV options right to your TV — with many selections available in high-def!

Prices average around $3.99 for rentals. However, there’s usually a little something that can be had for 99 cents. There’s also options to buy movies via download, as well as watch trailers and other clips.

There’s a legion of people out there that are still holding out hope that Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams will get back together in real life. The Princess Bride

30 Going on 30

This body-switching tale is more of a chick-flick, but it’s oh-so-romantic as well. Jennifer Garner is an absolute cutie-pie in this comedy. Also, when she and Mark Ruffalo share Razzles, my heart just melts. [Buy 30 Going on 30 on Blu-ray or 30 Going on 30 on DVD]

Lady and The Tramp

If you thought that people were freaking out over the LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer Tablet, wait until they get a load of MEEP!

Making its big debut at last weekend’s Toy Fair, the MEEP! tablet is Oregon Scientific’s first entry into kid’s tablets.

However, don’t expect to have cartridges scattered around the house. Instead, the Wi-Fi-enabled MEEP! Tablet will use the Android operating system to deliver music, movies, e-books, apps, and more — right to the tablet’s 7-inch color touchscreen.

Also, the MEEP! is built to last, with a tough design and an enhanced rubber silicon sleeve. Designed for children age 6 and up, the MEEP! tablet will come packing an SD card slot and optional parental controls.

There’s no word on when the MEEP! will make it to store shelves, as well as possible pricing. However, Oregon Scientific plans to debut a variety of MEEP! accessories, including musical instruments.

It’s been 14 years since Shakespeare in Love won that Best Picture Oscar. Of course, that was just one of seven statues the film snagged, including one each for stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Judi Dench.

With the Oscars on the heels of Valentine’s Day, Lionsgate finally decided to give the people a Shakespeare in Love Blu-ray. What took them so long?

The film finds a young, handsome Will Shakespeare (played by a young, handsome Joseph Fiennes) in search of a muse to help with his writer’s block. Who could be better than Lady Viola (Paltrow)? This is a fun, romantic flick, which has a slew of other stars, too, including Geoffrey Rush, Colin Firth and Ben Affleck.

Besides the film, the Blu-ray includes a few audio commentaries, deleted scenes, a peek at the behind the scenes, and of course, something about the costumes. Those must look especially awesome on Blu-ray!

It’s a new release, but it’s also an inexpensive one. Expect this cheap Valentine’s date to run you about $10.
